AZ battles to a victory in Tilburg a man downPublished on 05 april 21, 09:03
TILBURG- AZ delivered an outstanding performance this Saturday. During the away game at Willem II, the guests where a man down for 85 minutes, but still managed to win it: 0-1. Albert Gudmundsson scored the only goal in the second half.
After a mere five minutes, AZ had to continue with ten, when captain Teun Koopmeiners received a straight red card. Despite being outnumbered for almost the entire game, it was AZ that took control over the game. After 45 minutes, the Boys in Red recorded almost 70% possession.
About an hour into the match, this advantage finally led to a goal. First, Myron Boadu came one-to-one with Willem II-goalie Muric, but was flagged offside. Minutes later, another goal was disallowed. This time, Gudmundsson finished a cross by Jonas Svensson, but the VAR ruled the ball out of play.
In the 72nd minute, the third time was the charm, when Gudmundsson scored again. Muric could save a shot from Jesper Karlsson, but wasn’t able to stop the rebound by Gudmundsson. This goal was enough to take home the points.
