AZ breeze into the last eight

DORDRECHT - AZ eased passed First Division side FC Dordrecht recording a comfortable 4-2 away win in the KNVB Cup. Dirk Marcellis, Jozy Altidore, Viktor Elm and Ruud Boymans all got onto the scoresheet guiding AZ into the quarter-finals.

Donny Gorter returned to the line-up in a game that looked evenly matched after kick off. However, AZ finally got into gear after 17 minutes when Dirk Marcellis scored for Gertjan Verbeek's men making it 1-0.

AZ on song
AZ looked on top after the goal but Dordrecht gave them a scare after Jeffrey Rijsdijk's free kick struck the post. It was goal hungry Jozy Altidore who widened the gap when he bypassed two players and doubled the scoring making it 2-0. Within thirty minutes, the match was virtually decided when Viktor Elm slid a Roy Beerens' cross into the net behind Dordrecht 'keeper Warner Hahn increasing AZ's lead to 3-0.

Missed chances
AZ's lead could have been extended further in the first half as Garry Mendes Rodrigues, Johann Berg Gudmundsson and Adam Maher all had chances but couldn't find the target.
Dordrecht hope Verbeek rang the changes at the interval with Steven Berghuis replacing Viktor Elm; Altidore was also replaced after 60 minutes. It was around this time when AZ took their eye off the ball and the lower league hosts struck back when Moussa Kalisse outpaced Gorter and beat Esteban making it 3-1.

Late scare
The home team then caused a stir when they were awarded a late penalty which was converted by Lars Veldwijk but AZ soon sealed the game. Ruud Boymans concluded matters in the 90th minute making it 4-2 after a well-worked Berghuis-Maher combo.
