AZ earn away win over Heracles
Published on 30 oktober 11, 00:00In the new blue away shirts AZ made it very clear that it is they who belong on top of the table of the Dutch Eredivisie. AZ dominated from the start and was keen on not letting the opponent get into their game.
Most danger came from the right wing but Roy Beerens crosses were underestimated by his teammates. Efforts from Adam Maher and Rasmus Elm missed belief while Heracles Almelo got one chance from a Willie Overtoom header that was saved by Esteban.
After the break the image of the game was the same: AZ dominated and searched for opportunities, Heracles Almelo waited for chances on counter attacks. Pressure grew but Maher, Elm and Wernbloom were unlucky.
When everybody had almost resigned to a 0-0 end result Maher stood up as he did in the cup match against FC Dordrecht few days earlier. In between four opponents Wernbloom got him the ball. With some smooth moves he outplayed them all and beat Heracles Almelo goalkeeper Remko Pasveer.
Successful
AZ now got 28 points, only three less then they had in the successful 1980-1981 season when AZ became champions of the Eredivisie for the first time. With only eight goals against AZ currently have the best sheet in the league. AZ now lead with six points more then followers FC Twente and PSV.
