BELEK- AZ ran out 5-1 winners over FK Baku 5-1 in their third and last friendly in Belek on Saturday.  Maarten Martens (2x), Rasmus Elm, Roy Beerens and Ruud Boymans got their names on the score sheet for AZ.

AZ named the same team that met Werder Bremen as they took on FK Baku, currently lying fifth in the Azerbaijan league. Niki Mäenpää, Hobie Verhulst, Charlison Benschop, Thomas Lam, Fernando Lewis, Giliano Wijnaldum and Ragnar Klavan, who is troubled by a minor hamstring problem, were not called up to Saturday’s squad.

Elm
AZ dominated the game but needed a set piece for the third time in three matches to open the scoring: Elm broke the deadlock in the 14th minute with a trademark free kick. Elm also set up Martens for the second goal. The Swede took a corner from the right side after 24 minutes and Martens headed the ball past keeper. Seven minutes later, Martens found Beerens, who unleashed a powerful shot across the keeper into the top corner.

Substitutions
Erik Falkenburg, Dirk Marcellis and Johann Berg Gudmundsson replaced Adam Maher, Nick Viergever and Beerens at the start of the second half. Gertjan Verbeek´s team proved less dominant after the break. Yet  Martens scored his second goal of the match in the 56th minute.

Boymans
AZ
coach Gertjan Verbeek made some more changes, handing playing-time to Erik Schouten, Milan Hoek, Ali Messaoud, Kevin Luckassen, Celso Ortiz and Boymans. The latter put the icing on the cake with a goal scored in the final minute, after Winston Antonio Parks had scored a consolation goal for the Azerbaijan team.
