AZ suffer shock defeat at Heerenveen
Published on 04 december 11, 00:00With Niklas Moisander and Roy Beerens present in the lineup - and knowing runner-up PSV had lost earlier that day against Feyenoord AZ had good reasons to get off to a good start. Nevertheless Heerenveen took matters in its hands and Esteban had to interfere three times within the first five minutes.
From one of the many corner kicks it was Bas Dost who got the ball and managed to beat Esteban from close range: 1-0. The goal woke AZ that took over the initiative and scored the equalizer through Jozy Altidore: 1-1. Though AZ dominated that phase of the match it was Rajiv van La Parra who scored for the home team: 2-1.
With a 2-1 half-time score AZ had good possibilities to get back in the game. However within two minutes the match was decided when Filip Djuricic and Ramon Zomer scored the 3-1 and the 4-1. AZ did not manage to get back in the game and it was Luciano Narsingh who even made it 5-1.
AZ play the second half of the suspended match against Excelsior in Rotterdam on Wednesday. Saturday De Graafschap come to the AFAS Stadium.
