AZ suffers defeat against FC Utrecht

UTRECHT- AZ has lost their away game against FC Utrecht on Saturday. The match ended 2-1 due to a late own goal by Ricardo van Rhijn at Stadium Galgenwaard. This loss causes AZ to drop to the sixth place of the Eredivisie.

In the second minute AZ already opened the score. Bjørn Johnsen got on the end of a low cross by Thomas Ouwejan and tapped it home: 0-1. FC Utrecht levelled the score in the 37th-minute. Gyrano Kerk got past Van Rhijn on the backline and passed the ball to Urby Emanuelson. The Dutch midfielder had all the space to make his second goal of the season: 1-1.

AZ got a lot of chances in the second half, but not a single one could be finished by the attackers. In the end the hosts scored the winning goal. A cross by Sean Klaiber got deflected by Van Rhijn what meant the 2-1 in the 88th-minute. Next Sunday AZ plays at home against SC Heerenveen. The match will start 17:45 UK time.
