Cup tie at Ajax abandoned

AMSTERDAM- Wednesday’s KNVB Cup tie at Ajax has been abandoned after 37 minutes following a pitch invasion by an Ajax fan. The supporter ran on to the field and went to attack Esteban. The AZ goalkeeper defended himself and was subsequently sent off, when Ajax were leading 1-0 thanks to Gregory van der Wiel´s  goal. AZ left the pitch as the players did not feel safe on the field and decided not to restart the game.

The case will be submitted to the prosecutor of the KNVB. AZ will release an official statement on Thursday.
