Effective AZ beats PSV in AlkmaarPublished on 22 maart 21, 13:23
ALKMAAR- A very important victory for AZ this Sunday, as rivals PSV Eindhoven are beaten by 2-0. An early goal by Jesper Karlsson gave the boys in red the lead and another Koopmeiners goal sealed the deal in the AFAS Stadium.
Just like last week, it took AZ only four minutes to take the lead. Karlsson came from the left side and surprised PSV-goalie Mvogo by the near post: 1-0. It was his fifth goal in the first 15 minutes this season. Shortly after the opener, AZ was close to a second goal, but Stengs and Svensson couldn’t finish it.
PSV grew into the game and were unlucky when Mario Götze missed twice and Bizot saved well on a shot from Gakpo. A strong phase eventually meant PSV levelled, but the goal was cancelled because Dumfries was offside.
After the break, PSV continued the search for an equalizer, but the AZ defence stood solid and although the visitors dominated the first twenty minutes of the second half, it was AZ that would score again. Karlsson collected a low cross by Stengs and gave it to Koopmeiners, who didn’t hesitate and hammered it into the right corner: 2-0.
AZ won yet another top-clash game and gathered a stunning 30 points against Ajax, Feyenoord and PSV since Januari 2019. The victory also means AZ now has the same amount of points as number two PSV.
