ALKMAAR- Aston Villa have signed a pre-contract agreement with Brett Holman. His contract with AZ will expire at the end of the season. Holman joins the English club, currently fifteenth in the Premier League, as a free agent.

Holman joined AZ in the 2008/09 season and won the Dutch title in his first season in Alkmaar. The next few seasons, the forward became a first-team regular with AZ. He also won the Johan Cruyff Shield with AZ in 2009, scoring the opening goal in AZ´s 5-1 win over sc Heerenveen. Holman has made 87 Eredivisie appearances for AZ so far, scoring fourteen goals in the process. The 27-year-old  Australian, who has been capped 53 times by his country, had spells at NEC, Excelsior, Feyenoord and Paramatta Power before moving to AZ

“I’m delighted to have agreed terms with Aston Villa”, said Holman. “I’m looking forward to joining up with the team in Birmingham in the summer. I had a great time at AZ but I felt it was time for a new challenge after four seasons in Alkmaar. But I will first focus on the rest of the season here in Alkmaar. We are still in the race for the league, we want to win the KNVB Cup and attempt to progress as far as possible in the Europa League.”
