ALKMAAR- Adam Maher suffered defeat on his Jong Oranje debut on Monday night as Scotland recorded a 1-2 win over the Netherlands in a UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying game in Nijmegen. Maher was included in the starting line-up, scored an equaliser from a free-kick and was taken off after 72 minutes.

Maher was given his first start by coach Cor Pot and played off striker up front Nacer Barazite. The AZ midfielder showed great technical skills in the first half in particular and he made the most of a goalkeeping howler. Maher struck a free kick that appeared harmless but the Scottish goalkeeper Mark Ridgers fumbled the high ball into his own net.

Group 10
In spite of the 1-2 defeat, the Netherlands Under-21 are still on top of qualifying Group 10, with nine points from four games. Scotland moved to second place, with eight points from four games.
