Statement: ‘Inktzwarte avond’
Gepubliceerd op 19 mei 23, 15:50ALKMAAR- Waar vooraf iedereen hoopte op een historische Europese wedstrijd, werd het een inktzwarte avond vanwege de gebeurtenissen rondom het laatste fluitsignaal. Het werd een avond om met schaamte op terug te kijken. Niet vanwege het voetbal, maar door het gedrag van sommige bezoekers. Het woord supporters kunnen we voor deze mensen helaas niet gebruiken.
Wat er is gebeurd gaat alle perken te buiten. De club biedt nogmaals oprechte excuses aan richting West Ham United en alle duizenden goedwillende AZ-supporters die eveneens hinder hebben ondervonden van het wangedrag.
In de komende periode gaan we – gezamenlijk als lokale vierhoek – evalueren wat er precies is gebeurd, hoe dat heeft kunnen gebeuren en wat er voortaan beter moet. Dat er dingen beter moeten, is duidelijk. Onderdeel van de evaluatie is het grondig bekijken van alle beschikbare beelden zodat gepaste consequenties kunnen volgen voor de verantwoordelijken voor dit schandalige gedrag.
AZ is een club van beschaving en waar sportiviteit en normen en waarden voorop staan. De club gaat er alles aan doen om, samen met de betrokken instanties, deze personen te achterhalen en passende maatregelen te treffen.
English statement: 'Pitch black evening'
While everyone hoped for a historic European match, it turned into a pitch black evening due to the events occurring at the referee’s final whistle. It turned into a night to reflect on with shame. Not because of the football game played, but because of the behaviour of some visitors. Unfortunately, we cannot use the word ‘supporters’ for these people.
What happened is beyond all bounds. The club again sincerely apologises to West Ham United and the thousands of well minded AZ supporters who have also been inconvenienced by the misconduct.
In the coming period AZ will – together with the police, Public Prosecution Service, and Alkmaar’s municipality – evaluate exactly what happened, how it could have happened and what needs to be improved from now on. It is clear that things need to be improved. Part of the evaluation is a thorough review of all available footage so that appropriate consequences may follow for those responsible for this outrageous behavior.
AZ is a civilised club where sportsmanship and norms and values are paramount. The club will do everything possible, together with the authorities involved, to identify these persons and to take appropriate measures.
