UTRECHT- In wintry conditions on Sunday afternoon, AZ had to settle for a draw against FC Utrecht. Vangelis Pavlidis had put the Alkmaar team ahead just before half-time, but in the second half, the home team equalized.

Pascal Jansen fielded the same eleven players as against HŠK Zrinjski, with Djordje Mihailovic starting in the Eredivisie for the first time this season. Ernest Poku once again started on the right.

Within three minutes, AZ had the first chance of the match. Mihailovic delivered a good pass to Poku, who was too quick for his marker. However, Vasilis Barkas made the save and blocked another attempt a few minutes later. This time, it was David Møller Wolfe taking the shot. Poku proved dangerous and was once again too fast for his marker in the twelfth and twentieth minutes, but first, he shot wide, and the other attempt was saved by Barkas.

AZ had the most chances in the first half. After 37 minutes, Pavlidis had a shot from outside the box, but the Utrecht goalkeeper saved it. Shortly afterward, AZ found the back of the net. Ruben van Bommel played a good ball to Møller Wolfe, and the left-back crossed for Pavlidis. The striker slotted it between Ryan Flamingo and Nick Viergever for the 1-0, which would also be the halftime score.

Immediately after the break, the home team leveled the score. Initially, Mathew Ryan saved a shot from Othmane Boussaid, but the rebound fell to Victor Jensen. AZ had to search for the lead again. After an hour of play, Barkas had trouble with a long-range shot from Pavlidis, but he managed to secure the ball in the second attempt.

FC Utrecht then created a few chances. Mats Seuntjens narrowly missed tapping the ball in after a cross from Jensen, and shortly after, Oscar Fraulo shot wide. After a long-range attempt from Jordy Clasie went wide in between, Seuntjens had another big chance on the other end, but he also shot wide when faced with Ryan. Barkas made two saves on attempts from Poku.

Closing moments
In the closing stages, both teams had a chance to secure the win, but both Jens Toornstra and Denso Kasius shot wide. The match in Utrecht ended in a 1-1 draw.
