ALKMAAR- AZ secured a crucial victory in the group stage of the UEFA Europa Conference League on Thursday evening. Despite a red card for Mayckel Lahdo, AZ managed to hold on to the win. Vangelis Pavlidis was the matchwinner with the only goal of the game.

Pascal Jansen made no changes to his lineup compared to the last match against Fortuna Sittard. Bruno Martins Indi returned from injury and was on the bench.

First half
The first chance of the game came after 25 minutes, and it was a big one. Myron van Brederode played the ball to David Møller Wolfe, who found himself in a promising position. However, the left-back's shot in the near post was saved by goalkeeper Kacper Tobiasz. On the other side, Josué tried a fierce shot, but Mathew Ryan was alert. A shot from Pavlidis hit the side netting, and then it was time for half-time.

Pavlidis
Shortly after the break, the deadlock was finally broken in Alkmaar. A cross from Van Brederode was headed towards Pavlidis by Dani de Wit. The striker managed to put the ball into the net from close range for a 1-0 lead, marking his tenth goal of the season.

Red
After 66 minutes of play, AZ had to face a setback. Lahdo made contact with his opponent's face with a high boot and was shown a straight red card for it. However, AZ remained defensively solid and hardly gave Legia any opportunities even after the red card. Legia struggled to create chances, and Jansen's team remained calm in the closing stages, securing a crucial three points with ten men!
